Today.

There is no better time to begin the process of kicking alcoholism. If you truly want to start the new year off on the right foot, make the choice today to get that ball rolling.

The best place to start is to build up a support system that can surround you with guidance, accountability and friendship through this process. In Whatcom County, plenty of options exist to prove guidance in this journey.

Alcoholics Anonymous. Nearly 40 different AA groups meet in Whatcom County, some once a week and many several times each day. No matter where you are or what your schedule looks like, you’ll find a group. The only requirement for AA membership is a desire to stop drinking. If that’s you, feel free to look them up online at http://www.whatcomaa.org. If you’re desperate and want to talk with someone immediately, call 360-734-1688 to speak with an AA member.

Sea Mar Bellingham Behavioral Health Clinic. Sea Mar, a network of community health centers, offers a number of services in Whatcom County for those who want to kick alcohol. They accept most insurance, including Medicaid, and they offer a sliding-fee-scale discount, determined by household size and income.

Catholic Community Services. The CCS NW Recovery Center in Whatcom County offers family-centered addiction recovery treatment for youth and adults. Contact them at their Bellingham office on Lakeway Drive to learn more.

Belair Clinic. The Belair Clinic offers outpatient drug and alcohol recovery services for youth and adults alike throughout Whatcom County. Visit their website to learn more about their services, which include individual and family counseling, relapse prevention and various levels of outpatient treatment.

Bridges Treatment and Recovery. Bridges, located in both Bellingham and Ferndale, offers individual counseling, relapse prevention support and two levels of outpatient treatment.

Bostec, Inc. Anyone in the area can come to Bostec’s Lynden office, where trained staff will facilitate fast and accurate drug and alcohol screening tests. In most cases, results are shared immediately, and a printed report is sent home for your review. This can be great for maintaining accountability, which is critical to recovery from alcohol dependence. Bostec is proud to offer products and services that help everyone get back on the right track.

Remember, the path to defeating alcohol starts today. You can do it.
